— Razorbacks yank Florida QB’s offer

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema called quarterback Tyler Cogswell of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage on Friday and told him the Hogs were going to sign only one quarterback in the 2013 class, and it wasn’t going to be him.

Cogswell, 6-5, 225 pounds, 4.9 seconds in the 40-yard dash, was offered a scholarship by Paul Petrino, Arkansas’ former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, during the spring evaluation and orally committed to the Hogs shortly afterward.

“Once Tyler committed, Coach Petrino told him, ‘I don’t want you going to any more camps and taking any other officials,” said Steve Cogswell, the quarterback’s father.

Steve Cogswell said they followed Petrino’s wishes, and that Bielema called Dec. 6 and talked to his son about an official visit.

“Then he got a call Friday night,” Steve Cogswell said.

Bielema basically told them that Arkansas could afford to take only one quarterback because it had too many holes to fill, Cogswell said.

That leaves Fayetteville quarterback Austin Allen as the only quarterback among the Razorbacks’ 17 oral commitments. Oral commitments are nonbinding.

Steve Cogswell said he is confident his son will find another school.

“Tyler is going to end up somewhere,” he said. “He’s already getting some calls. He was getting calls from bigger schools about a month ago and he said, ‘I’m committed, I’m committed.’ ”
