Police: Woman tries to steal ID of missing Arkansas girl

— Arkansas State Police have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to steal the identity of Morgan Nick, a 6-year-old girl who vanished from an Alma ball field in 1995.

Officials said Tuesday that 24-year-old Tonya Renee Smith of Hollister, Mo., was charged with felony computer fraud.

State police say that on June 23, Smith sought to obtain a copy of Morgan’s birth certificate through an Internet-based company and allegedly represented herself as Morgan Nick. The girl’s disappearance has never been solved.

Police have brought Smith to Little Rock to face the charge. Smith is in the Pulaski County jail on $200,000 bond.

Smith is wanted in Louisiana for an alleged probation violation. It’s unclear whether she has a lawyer.
