The Libertarian Party of Arkansas has submitted petitions to appear on next year’s ballot, and the party’s chairman says he hopes to field candidates from the legislative to congressional level.
Party leaders on Wednesday submitted more than 16,000 signatures to the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office. The party needs to submit at least 10,000 signatures from registered voters to be recognized as a political party next year.
Party Chairman Rodger Paxton says the party spent nearly $40,000 and thousands of hours gathering signatures to submit to the secretary of state’s office. If recognized, Paxton said the party hopes to field candidates for state legislative seats, Congress and even local offices such as county sheriffs.
The secretary of state’s office has 30 days to verify the signatures submitted.
