Walmart Expands Small-Format Stores

WALMART EXPRESS A sign marks the construction entrance Friday at the site of a planned Walmart Express on Industrial Park Road near the western border of Prairie Grove. The 14,869-square-foot building is being built by C.R. Crawford Construction in Fayetteville.

Walmart’s latest store format will be springing up in Prairie Grove, Gravette and Gentry. The retailer plans to build 15,000-square-foot stores in each town. Gary Davis, owner of Sterling Drug in Prairie Grove, said adding new businesses is good. “The more businesses, the more traffic you get,” he said.


Types Of Stores

Walmart formats vary in average size.

• Supercenter: 185,000 square feet

• Discount stores: 108,000 square feet

• Neighborhood Markets: 42,000 square feet
