— Color has stylishly transformed even the most familiar shapes into eye candy.

Lampshades often are featured in the same hue, or interpreted with boldly contrasting hues, such as the magenta porcelain Isadora lamp from The Natural Light, with its shiny lime lampshades lined in magenta.

A kicky introduction from Arteriors at the fall furniture market in High Point, N.C., features a transparent, inverted funnel shape in a brilliant seablue, topped with a short rectangular shade hand-embroidered with flowers in a seemingly drawn-on, linear pattern.

New lampshades, some in more modern cylindrical, square or rectangular shapes, offer new hope for lamps we’ve tired of.

“Shades are a cost-effective way to provide a face-lift,” lighting designer Lucy Martin says. “Colors can be picked up with accessories such as cushions and throws to knit the whole room together.” Bold colors - such as lime - can instantly change the mood of a room. One recent find at Anthropologie

is a silk shade embroidered with peacocks on a navy or cream ground. It’s available in large (10 inches high by 15.5 inches in diameter) or extra large (12 inches high by 18 inches diameter) for $108 and $148, respectively.
