— A TV reporter who lapsed into gibberish during a live shot outside the Grammy Awards show said she was terrified when it happened and knew something was wrong as soon as she opened her mouth. KCBS-TV reporter Serene Branson’s incoherence Sunday fueled Internet speculation that she suffered an on-air stroke. But doctors at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she went to get a brain scan and blood work done, ruled out astroke. Doctors said she suffered a type of migraine that can mimic symptoms of a stroke. Branson told CBS’ The Early Show on Friday that she was terrified and confused and didn’t know what was going on. “I knew something wasn’t right as soon as I opened my mouth,” she said. “I hadn’t been feeling well a little bit before the live shot. I had a headache, my vision was very blurry. I knew something wasn’t right, but I just thought I was tired. So when I opened my mouth, I thought, ‘This is more than just being tired. Something is terribly wrong.’ I wanted to say, ‘Lady Antebellum swept the Grammys.’ And I could think of the words, but I could not get them coming out properly.” The station quickly cut away and Branson was swarmed by photographers and her field producer. She was examined by paramedics, and recovered at home. She returned to the KCBS-TV newsroom Thursday.

Keith Brown, the father of The 5 Browns musical group pleaded guilty Thursday in Provo, Utah, to sexually abusing his daughters when they were children, in a deal that will send him to prison for at least 10 years. With scratches and bruises on his face from a crash in which his Porsche plunged 300 feet into a canyon, Brown, 55, entered his plea to one first-degree felony count of sodomy on a child and two second-degree felony countsof sexual abuse of a child. Brown’s three daughters and two sons are part of the classical piano group The 5 Browns, whose albums have topped the classical-music charts. The records filed Feb. 10 in the abuse case don’t identify any victim by name or indicate the relationship between Keith Brown and the victims. However, Kimball Thomson, a spokesman for The 5 Browns, said the charges involve group members Desirae, 32, Deondra, 30, and Melody, 26. Thomson said the Brown women have chosen to be identified and are cooperating with police.
