The spiritual caretaker of Indonesia’s Mount Merapi offered rice and chickens to the volcano’s spirits in ceremonies held one mile away from the Merapi’s opening. In an article in Friday’s editions, The Associated Press erroneously reported that the offerings were thrown into the crater.

An article about the cost of a college education in Friday’s editions incorrectly stated the number of Academic Challenge Scholarships funded by the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. Figures provided by Department of Higher Education on Friday show 31,406 of the scholarships have been awarded.
