Siloam Springs To Face Nettleton For 5A Crown

The Siloam Springs Lady Panthers are back in the state finals yet again.

The six-time defending Class 5A champions fought off Wynne to score a three-set sweep on the Lady Yellowjackets’ home court in front of nearly 1,500 fans at Wynne High School on Thursday.

The Lady Panthers (30-8) won Game 1 27-25 and had a little easier time in Games 2 and 3 with 25-17 and 25-22 wins, respectively.

“It was pretty packed,” Siloam Springs head coach Rose Cheek said. “They fought through a hostile crowd and it wasn’t our prettiest performance, but we got the job done.”

The Lady Panthers will play 5A-East No. 2 seed Nettleton (22-4) at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Class 5A championship match in Tiger Arena at Bentonville High School.

Siloam Springs and Nettleton are familiar opponents, having played met in the 2007 and 2008 state tournaments.

Lizzy Briones led Siloam Springs on Thursday with 22 kills, while Makenzie Sharp and Laken Grigg each had eight kills. Allie Wade added six kills, three solo blocks and five block assists for the Lady Panthers.

Sharp also had five block assists.

Lexi Anglin led with 16 digs, while Briones had 10 digs, Wade had nine and Ashley Avery contributed eight. Sarah Lowry, Grigg and Sharp combined for 13 more digs.
