SUPERMARKET SLEUTH: Pizza & Breadsticks paired by DiGiorno

— DiGiorno has a new product that’s extremely convenient, Pizza & Breadsticks, and the concept ties in nicely with their “like delivery” pizza line of advertising. The frozen pizza and breadsticks in one package are available in varieties that include:

Supreme Pizza with Garlic & Herb Breadsticks. The pizza is topped with Italian sausage, pepperoni, red and green bell peppers, onions and mozzarella cheese.

Pepperoni Pizza with Cheesy Breadsticks

Four Cheese Pizza with Cheesy Breadsticks. The pizza is topped with mozzarella, parmesan, asiago and Romano cheeses.

All three flavors come with marinara dipping sauce and eight breadsticks, and cost about $8. I wasn’t overly fond of the taste or texture. But I’m also not a big fan of frozen pizza, so that probably had something to do with it.

Commercials for Oreo’s Double Stuf Racing League are airing right now, and they are really kind of cute. The ads feature celebrities like Venus Williams, Eli Manning, Shaquille O’Neal and ApoloOhno working to defeat the hooded menace threatening to take over the “DSRL.”

The commercials are advertising the new Double Stuf Oreo Heads or Tails cookies that come with one chocolate wafer and vanilla wafer on each cookie. I’ve seen it done by other brands, so it’s not that original, but it’s still neat. And, if you go to NabiscoWorld.com, you can get in on the action and join the DSRL.

And for football season, Oreo introduced a limited edition Football Oreo made with wafers shaped like footballs. For Halloween, they’ve brought back the Oreos with orange creme filling, and as we progress toward the end of the year, you’ll begin seeing the Winter Oreos with red creme filling.

Oreo cookies are sold at most major stores, where a 15.5-ounce bag should cost about $2.50 to $3.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the Francesco Rinaldi ToBe Healthy line of pasta sauces, and mistakenly said they were only carried at Save-A-Lot stores in Arkansas. I’ve since learned that they’re also carried at some Kroger stores as well.
