Lady Panthers Advance

— Six-time defending state champion Siloam Springs fought off a scrappy Greene County Tech team 3-0 on Tuesday in the Class 5A State Volleyball Tournament at Wynne High School.

The Lady Panthers (28-8) took the first set 25-15 but had to battle in Games 2 and 3 to post 25-22 and 25-20 victories.

“It wasn’t pretty but the girls got the job done,” Siloam coach Rose Cheek said. “Greene County Tech was a good team. They were very scrappy.”

Siloam Springs will now play Batesville at 6 p.m. today in the quarterfinals.

Lizzy Briones led Siloam Springs with 14 kills and 14 digs to go with six block assists and two solo blocks. Allie Wade added seven kills, six block assists, five digs and three solo blocks. Setter Laken Grigg had 32 assists, three blocks, four digs and two kills.

Ashley Avery, Lexi Anglin and Jessica Quiring combined for 13 digs, while Sarah Lowry had five block assists. Briones, Anglin and Makenzie Sharp each had two aces.
