NORTHERN LIGHTS Hangar fest plane fun for groups’ supporters

— It was a good night to hang out in a hangar.

The Kendrick Fincher Hydration Foundation and the Arkansas Air Museum cohosted “Rhythm and Ribs” on Oct. 16, a joint fundraiser held at the museum. Surrounded by warbirds and one air-show jet - gleaming representations from America’s aviation past - supporters of one or both nonprofits dined on ribs, potato salad and dessert from Delta Soul and bid on one-of-a-kind items - model airplanes decorated by local celebrities such as Tom Pagnozzi.

Kendrick Fincher was just13 when he died due to complications from heat stroke incurred at football practice at Elmwood Junior High in Rogers in 1995. The foundation promotes awareness of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Once the bidding for the planes was completed, R.J. Mischo and His Red Hot Blues Band took over, and seemingly everyone at the event took a turn on the dance floor. Near the end of the night, air museum executive director Warren Jones offered a few lucky guests a speedy spin around the Drake Field runway in a 1940s convertible.
