POA Board Discusses Tennis Facility

— The Bella Vista Property Owners Association general manager briefly discussed plans for a new tennis facility during the board of directors meeting Oct. 21 at the Country Club.

POA General Manager Tommy Bailey said bids were received from contractors on Oct. 5 for the project to create a new building for Kingsdale Tennis Center. Bailey said the bids were substantially higher than the $250,000 estimate originally planned for the project. Some additional items had been added to the plans since the start of the project, but Bailey said he felt the amount of money in the bids did not seem right for the size of the proposed facility.

During the POA work session Oct. 14, Larry Perkin, architect for Hight-Jackson Associates, said the proposed facility is designed to be 1,550 square feet.

Bailey said POA officials are in talks with the architect to discuss options for going forward with the project at a cost closer to what was originally budgeted. The plans for the facility will be discussed either at the next board meeting or at a special interim board meeting if needed, Bailey said.

In other business, the board passed a motion approving moving $500,000 from the water department cash reserves to pay the POA. The money is to pay off a previous loan made by the POA to the water department, and the motion also cited reviewing the remainder of the money left in the loan that is owed to the POA again in the first quarter of next year, said Chastity Clark, POA staff attorney.

The next POA board meeting will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Country Club Board Meeting Room.
