Court Upholds Capital Murder Conviction

— The Arkansas Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the death sentence of a Rogers man convicted of killing a Garfield resident in 2007.

In a unanimous ruling, the high court rejected Brandon Eugene Lacy’s arguments there was not enough evidence to justify his conviction on capital murder and aggravated robbery charges in the fatal stabbing of Randy Walker.

Lacy was convicted of killing Walker with a fireplace poker and setting his home on fire in August 2007.

During the trial, jurors heard Lacy’s recorded confession, in which he admitted hitting Walker on the head with a fireplace poker and later stabbing him with the object.

Lacy’s co-defendant, Broderick Lloyd Laswell, is scheduled for trial Jan. 18. He is being held in the Benton County Jail.
