Local Car Company Damaged By Fire

— The Fayetteville Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a car dealership Tuesday night.

Assistant Fire Chief Bud Thompson said firefighters responded to the Osburn Motor Co., 2900 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., at 9:32 p.m. after a witness reported smoke coming from the roof of the building.

Nobody was in the building and no injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, he said.

The fire, smoke and water did an estimated $300,000 in structural damage and another $150,000 to the interior contents, Thompson said.

“It was a $2 million piece of property, so it could have been a lot worse,” Thompson said. “I believe only one car and maybe one of the business owner’s trucks were damaged. I’d say the building itself was destroyed.”

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.

“About 17 firefighters responded to the first alarm,” he said. “Three more, plus administrative personnel, responded to the second alarm call.”

Thompson said two Fayetteville fire engines and two ladder trucks, along with a Farmington fire engine, responded.
