BELLA VISTA — Mark Chambers survived an up-and-down round Friday at the Bella Vista Country Club and will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Bella Vista Village Men’s Championship.
The tournament concludes today with the leaders teeing off around 9:30 a.m.
Chambers shared the lead with Ryan Sumrall following a 4-under-par 68 in Thursday’s first round. He then overcame a double-bogey on the par-5 No. 12 hole to shoot an even-par 72 on Friday for a two-day total of 4-under 140.
Former Rogers High golfer Jordan Daharsh fired a 5-under 67 on Friday and trails Chambers by one stroke at 3-under 141. Daharsh opened the tourney with a 2-over 74. Sumrall (142) and Bob Brooks (143) will also be in today’s final group. Brooks also carded a 5-under 67 on Friday.
“I hit the ball good,” Chambers said. “I hit one out of bounds and I missed a couple of short birdie putts. I had four birdies. So, overall, I hit the ball pretty good.”
Chambers said he will have a simple game plan for today’s final round. “I’m just going to hit a lot of greens,” Chambers said. “I’m going to hit it in the fairway and knock it on the green.”
Daharsh shot 33 on the opening nine holes Friday and came in with a 34 for his 5-under 67. Daharsh had back-to-back birdies on the par-5 No. 3 and the par-4 No. 4 before carding a birdie on No. 7, a 500-yard par 5.
He then closed out his bogey-free round with birdies on both of the par 5s on the backside.
Brooks also fired a 67 Friday after carding a 76 in Thursday’s first round. Brooks used an eagle for a 5-under 31 on the backside after starting with a birdie, a bogey and nine pars on the first 11 holes.
Chris Vernelson opened the tournament with a 3-under 69 but had shot 9 over par to finish with an 81 on Friday.
