— Fire Chief Jeff Coffelt has been busy setting up one of the biggest celebrations the city has had.

Centerton Day is scheduled to being at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and will last until midnight with music and entertainment filling every minute of the day, Coffelt said.

“Centerton Day is important because it gives everybody a chance to get together and they can all have a good time,” said Mayor Bobbie Griffith.

Centerton Day started in 1976 as part of the country’s bicentennial celebration and has continued since, Coffelt said.

The festivities are now the city’s volunteer Fire Department’s largest fundraiser. All money raised during the event will go to purchase new fire equipment, Coffelt said.

Griffith said the department has raised an average of $10,000 each year at previous Centerton Days. Coffelt hopes to raise around $15,000 this year.

Many of the day’s events, including several children’s games, a parade, the Arkansas Department are welcome, Coffelt said.

The Tiny Tot contest for children up to 5 years old has a $10 registration fee; the 5K and one mile fun run have a $20 entry fee, Coffelt said.

Lunch will be provided by Beef O’Bradys. Proceeds from the lunch and concession stand will also benefit the Fire Department, Coffelt said.
