SPRINGDALE

Alta Mae Blythe McCrary Disney, 92, of Springdale, fell asleep peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2010, to awaken in the presence of her Savior, Christ Jesus, forever. Members of her family and dear friends attended her with great appreciation for the loving care afforded by the folks at Circle of Life Hospice.

She was born June 11, 1918, in Antlers, Okla., to Edgar Blythe and Octavia Townsend McCrary. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 53 years, Gerald Oren Disney; a sister, Catherine McCrary; a stepbrother, Cody Miller; an infant granddaughter, Tisha Gayle Green; and an infant great-granddaughter, McKenzie Rose Green.

She was a member of the Mission Boulevard Baptist Church in Fayetteville pastored by her son, Dr. Brian Disney. She had a beautiful voice and had been involved in church work since childhood in many things such as teaching, counseling, music and youth ministry. As a child, she often accompanied her father to revivals in Oklahoma, where she sang specials with him. Her last special, “In The Garden,” was sung at the age of 90 with her granddaughter at the Mission Boulevard Baptist Church.

Besides her church work, her first priority was being a mom and wife. She was employed by Harps and the Ben Franklin stores in Springdale, which were purchased by Sam Walton as his second and third stores, where she became his first buyer. After retirement she became — by proclamation of most of her students — the world’s best 7th grade math teacher at Fayetteville Christian School. One of her greatest thrills was to be named in the “Who’s Who” of teachers. She taught math for 14 years, retiring at the age of 82 due to illness.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Dr. William Brian Disney and Martha Joyce Simpson Disney of Springdale, Mrs. Della Kaye Disney Brown and Charles Dale Brown of Shreveport, La., Mrs. Mary Bert Disney Jones and Lewis R. Jones of Derby, Kan., Mrs. Jerri Gayle Disney Green and Harry Starr Green of Bentonville, Mr. David Gerald Disney and Vickie Gunderson Disney of Des Moines, Iowa.

She is also survived by a step-sister-in-law, Noweta Miller of Springtown, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and spouses; three step-grandchildren and spouses; 33 great-grandchildren and spouses; seven great-great-grandchildren; and remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Known as “Grandma” to all of the grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren, she was loved deeply and is already missed. She will be remembered for her legacy of passing Christ down the line and her beautiful smile. Her daughter, Mary Bert Disney Jones, allows that she has left a huge footprint.

The family will receive friends at visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Mission Boulevard Baptist Church, 2006 Mission Blvd. on Hwy. 45 in Fayetteville. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at the church with Dr. Brian Disney and Pastor Brad Jones officiating. Burial will be at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale.

Bearers will be Robert Oren Green, Gregory Charles Brown, Buddy Jones Jr., William Michael Disney, Christopher Murry Green, Tre Alen Disney and Brent Morgan Disney.

Honorary bearers will be Troy Enochs, Dan Bush, Michael Calamari, Rodney Keith Milliken and all of the great- and great-great-grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Christian School, 2006 Mission Blvd., Fayetteville, AR 72703.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale. Online condolences may be sent to www.heritageofnwa.com.
