Former Clinton press secretary Gauldin dies

— A memorial service is scheduled for next month for Mike Gauldin — who served as press secretary to Bill Clinton when Clinton was Arkansas governor.

Gauldin was also director of communications for the Department of Energy — then the Department of Interior during the Clinton presidential administration.

He died Thursday in Washington after battling brain cancer. Gauldin was 55.

A memorial service will be Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Foreman Baptist Church.

Gauldin worked for newspapers in Russellville and Springdale and taught journalism at the University of Arkansas before becoming Clinton's press secretary in 1982.

Clinton issued a statement calling Gauldin a gifted man who faced cancer "with courage and grace."
