Lawyer to contest client’s statements in woman’s death

— The attorney representing a man charged with murder in connection with his former girlfriend’s disappearance plans to challenge the admissibility of statements his client gave police.

Blair Brady, who represents Randall Greenway, informed the court Monday of his intent to file the motion.

Greenway, 38, is charged with capital murder in connection with the 2007 disappearance of Alicia Minton, whose body has not been found. Circuit Judge David Clinger gave Brady until Aug. 31 to file the motion, and prosecutors will have 30 days to respond.

Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Van Stone said after Monday’s hearing he is still considering the death penalty in the case.

Minton, then 29 and living in Bentonville, was last seen at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on West Walnut Street in Rogers.

Greenway confessed he killed Minton to his thengirlfriend and at least six inmates, according to an affidavit. The girlfriend, who was not identified, said Greenway took Minton to Beaver Lake on June 1. He said he boated with Minton to an island on the lake, became angry with her and cut her throat, put her head under water and then stabbed her in the forehead, according to the affidavit.

He said he weighted her body before sinking it in the lake, the affidavit said.

Greenway, who was identified as a suspect weeks after Minton’s disappearance, is serving a 20-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in 2007 to drug charges.
