Governor’s Scholars in region are named

Students from across the state have been named Governor’s Distinguished Scholars and Governor’s Scholars, the Arkansas Department of Higher Education has announced.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is divided into two categories: Governor’s Distinguished Scholars and Governor’s Scholars, said Jim Purcell, director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.

Applicants with at least a 3.5 grade-point average and a minimum of 32 ACT composite score or 1410 combined score on the critical reasoning and math sections of the SAT are designated Governor’s Distinguished Scholars.

Students who are named National Merit Finalists or National Achievement Finalists also qualify as Distinguished Scholars.

The scholarship pays up to $10,000 per year for full tuition, mandatory fees and room and board for up to the statutory maximum of 300 new awards each year.

Students who earn the highest scores in each of the state’s 75 counties are designated Governor’s Scholars.

Applicants’ scores are based on ACT or SAT score, high school grade-point average in academic courses, class rank and leadership.

The students earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average or a 27 ACT composite score or 1220 combined score on the critical reasoning and math sections of the SAT.

The scholarship pays up to $4,000 per year for full tuition, mandatory fees and room and board for 75 students - one from each of the state’s counties.
