TEXARKANA — Forney G. Holt, M.D., 97, Texarkana, Ark., (formerly of Hope, Ark.), passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at a Texarkana hospital. He was born June 26, 1913, in Bingen, Ark., to Earl and Maggie Goodwin Holt. He was an Army veteran having served in both World War II and Korea. He was a former Principal and High School Math Teacher at Hope Public Schools. He was a former member of Hope School Board; the Missions Board, Little Rock, Ark., and member of First Baptist Church, Hope, Ark. He received his master’s in chemistry; and his Medical Degree from the University of Arkansas Medical Science, Little Rock, Ark. He was former owner/operator of Hope Clinic in Hope, Ark. He taught medicine at University of Arkansas Medical Science Little Rock, Ark., and the former Southern Clinic in Texarkana, Ark., before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Kathleen Downs Holt in 2001; two brothers, Edwin Holt and Oscar Holt; one sister, Mary Gilbert; one nephew, Robert Edward Hamilton. Survivors Include his wife, Helen K. Rateliff Holt, Texarkana, Ark.; four sons, Tommy Holt, Atlanta, Ga.; Charles Rateliff and Brenda, Bentonville, Ark.; Ronnie Rateliff, Bella Vista, Ark.; Danny Rateliff and Rachelle Texarkana, Texas; one daughter, Sharon Hicks, Texarkana, Texas; 11 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Hope, Ark., with Rev. Mark Fischer and Dr. Lowell Harris officiating. Military Burial Rose Hill Cemetery, Hope, Ark. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home, Hope, Ark. Visitation: Saturday, July 24, 2010, from 6-8 p.m., Brazzel/Oakcrest, Hope, Ark.
