Harley Andy Moser Sr.

ROGERS — Harley Andy Moser Sr., 91, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in Rogers, Ark., while a patient at Mercy Hospital.

Harley was born September 1918 in Bexar, Ark., to parents Noah and Ruth Moser. While growing up, he attended school in Calico Rock, Ark.

Harley married Phyllis Simpson of Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1937. Five years later, Harley realized that his country needed his skills, so he enlisted in the Air Force in 1942. A World War II veteran, Harley earned the rank of 1st sergeant. He was stationed in China, Burma and India during his Air Force career.

Upon leaving the Air Force, Harley began to seek a permanent home for Phyllis and himself. After visiting Rogers, Ark., he commented that “it was the nicest place on earth.” The two built their home in Rogers and have lived here ever since.

In 1950, Harley Sr. established and became the founder of the Moser Corporation. Throughout Harley’s life, he was fascinated by cabinet-making and took his mastery of woodworking and cabinetry to a substantial level in the opening of the company. Over the course of the next 60 years, the Moser brand has graced thousands of school classrooms, hospitals, institutions, public and private offices as well as libraries, government off ces and organizations with highquality furniture and equipment. Harley Sr.’s hobby was his work and he delighted in developing new methods of wood manufacturing and translated his skills into meaningful products for others.

While Harley’s life centered around his work, he also had a tremendous love for his community and youth. Harley Sr. was an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 122 of Rogers and enjoyed working with young men, many of which earned the rank of Eagle during his tenure. He was also responsible for helping establish the first Little League organizations in Rogers, working with the Rogers Lions Club to bring baseball to area youth.

Harley was an elected member of the Rogers city council during the 1950s and worked with the city on road and highway concerns.

Harley and Phyllis were active members of the Central United Methodist Church of Rogers. Harley was involved in many church activities and chaired several committees during his lifetime.

Harley Sr. leaves behind his wife, Phyllis, of the home; three sons and daughter in-laws, Harley Moser Jr. and Lynda, Philip Moser, and Mike and Sandra Moser. Grandchildren include Kelly Chimarys, Terry Drain, Todd Moser, Margo Blunk, Timothy Moser, Daniel Moser and Mason Moser. Harley Sr. also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews throughout the United States also mourn the loss of the grandfather and great-uncle.

In 1955, the Rogers newspaper published an article about Harley Sr. and his business. It was an in-depth look at Harley Sr. as a bright and gifted businessman as well as an artist, creator and designer. The article will be made available to those attending the services at the Central United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Rogers. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, at Central United Methodist Church in Rogers. Burial will be private.

The family has requested that, in lieu of fl owers, donations and gifts be made to the Central United Methodist Church of Rogers at 2535 W. New Hope Road, Rogers, AR 72757, or charity of their choice.
