More Candidates File For School Board

RACES DEVELOP IN THREE WASHINGTON COUNTY DISTRICTS

— Contested races have surfaced in Fayetteville, Farmington and two zones in Greenland as the filing period for Washington County school board seats winds down.

Filing ends at noon today for the Sept. 21 election. The Washington County Election Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday to drawfor ballot order in contested races.

A three-way race for the Fayetteville Zone 2, currently held by Howard Hamilton, has developed between Bryn Bagwell, Helen Garst and Jeanie Hill. Hamilton is not seeking re-election.

In Farmington, Tony Parsley filed to run against incumbent Herbert Dorman for the Position 3 seat.

Heather D. Crossland is seeking a seat on the Springdale School Board. She is running against incumbent Mike Luttrell and Edge Nowlin for the at-large Position 1.

In Greenland, a three-way race has developed in Zone 2 between Lonnie Meadows, Paula Schoonover and David Lee Stout Jr. A two-way race in Zone 5 will be between Dennis Caudle and Daniel Marzoni II.

Unopposed candidates as of late Thursday for the Greenland School Board are Todd Bohannan, Zone 1; James Miller, Zone 3;and Terry Reed, Zone 6. No candidates have filed in zones 4 and 7.

Greenland school patrons will elect a new school board this year after the district was removed from the state’s fiscal distress list for recurring financial problems. The district was taken over by the Arkansas Department of Education and the Arkansas State Board of Education two years ago. Local control of the district will be returned later this year when a new school board is seated.

Other unopposed candidates as of late Thursday afternoon are Justin Eichmann, Fayetteville Zone 3; Laren Vaught, Elkins Position 3; William Dick, Prairie Grove Position 2; Beth Everett, Prairie Grove Position 5; Jim Ayers, Lincoln Position 3; and Deborah Harnish, West Fork Position 3.

To date, no one has filed for Springdale Zone 5 currently held by Danny Dotson. Dotson has indicated he planned to seek re-election.

All school board terms are for fi ve years.
