School Supply Drive Set

FAYETTEVILLE - The United Way of Northwest Arkansas is collecting school supplies as part of its Stuff the Bus campaign this weekend.

Buses will be parked at various Walmart stores throughout the region and will be taking donations of school supplies.

The bus will be open for donations from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Walmart stores on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and on Mall Avenue in Fayetteville.

Former President Clinton To Visit

Former President Bill Clinton will visit Northwest Arkansas on Aug. 11.

Clinton will attend the 20th anniversary meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Council that morning, said Scott VanLaningham, vice chairman of the council. The council’s meetings are open only to members.

“He lent invaluable support to several of the council’s major projects, including Northwest Arkansas RegionalAirport,” VanLaningham said.

“We wanted to invite him back to mark 20 years with us.”

Clinton is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech at a fundraiser for Economics Arkansas, a nonprofit group dedicated to teaching economic principles to K-12 students, at the Holiday Inn & Northwest Arkansas Convention Center in Springdale. Tickets start at $100 for the luncheon and are available by contacting the Economics Arkansas office, 501-682-4230.

SpongeBob To Appear Saturday

ROGERS - SpongeBob Squarepants will be at car dealership on Saturday, supporting CASA of Northwest Arkansas’ Christmas in July Toy Drive and promoting child safety.

Families are encouraged to donate one or more new, unwrapped toys for any age child. Child safety seat checks will also be available. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Toyota of Northwest Arkansas, 411 S. Metro Parkway.

School Supply Drive Under Way

BENTONVILLE — The Bentonville School District will participate in the United Way of Northwest Arkansas’ Stuff the Bus campaign this weekend.

Every summer, the United Way teams with Walmart to collect school supplies for children in need.

The bus will be open for school supply donations from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Walmart, 406 S. Walton Blvd., in Bentonville. Bentonville students and volunteers will staff the bus both days.

Jazz Ensemble To Perform Tonight

BENTONVILLE — The Northwest Arkansas Jazz Ensemble will take the stage tonight as a part of the Summer Concert Series in Orchards Park.

The show is free to the public and begins at 7 p.m.

Those who would like to bring lawn chairs and coolers with drinks and snacks are welcome to do so. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Orchards Park is at J Street and John DeShields Boulevard in Bentonville.

Lowell Street To Close Monday

Oakwood Avenue at the intersection of Dixieland Road in Lowell will close Monday because of construction on Dixieland.

Oakwood is used frequently to cross Interstate 540 from the east to the west side of Lowell, according to a news release from the city. The closing means drivers will be unable to do that. The closure is expected to last until Aug. 9.

County Road Closed Next Week

Benton County 74 in Avoca will be closed Monday through Thursday, according to a news release from the Benton County Road Department.

Harrington Files For Decatur Board

Tea Party To Hold Celebration

The Benton County Tea Party will celebrate their one-year anniversary with keynote speaker Jim Keet, a conservative candidate for Arkansas governor.

The event will be held at Ambassadors for Christ Academy, 8579 W. Ford Springs Road in Bentonville, at 7 p.m. Thursday.
