Volunteers Sought For Secchi Day

— The Beaver Water District is recruiting volunteers to measure the water clarity of Beaver Lake during the fifth annual Secchi Day set for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 21.

Volunteers will fan out on the lake in boats to their assigned locations with metal Secchi disks provided by the water district. Disks are lowered into the water and the depth recorded when the Secchi disk can no longer be seen.

Volunteers also collect a water sample from the location and return the sample and Secchi disk measurements to Prairie Creek park where the data is recorded.

Information collected over the years is used to monitor the water quality at Beaver Lake.

Other activities include a water education festival, rain-barrel building and a performance by Marshall Mitchell at noon.

To volunteer, contact Drew Dickey at [email protected] or call the Beaver Water District at 479-756-3651.
