OZARK

Larry Thomas Barrett, age 59, of Ozark, Ark., died Monday, July 19, 2010, in Ozark, Ark.

He was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict, and a member of The Old Country Church in Ozark. He was born June 9, 1951, in Pocahontas, Ark., to Robert Barrett and Juanita Hutcheson Barrett. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bobby, Billy and Jackie Barrett.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010, at Eastside Assembly of God Church at Highway 72 East and Spring Valley Road in Bentonville, Ark., with Pastor Robert Ward officiating. Graveside service with military honors will follow at 4 p.m. at Cave Springs Cemetery. Cremation was under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. He is survived by his best friend and caregiver, Donna Durham of Ozark; two daughters, Kimberly Barrett of Decatur and Mindy Cavanagh of Rogers; two sons, Larry Dale "L.D." Barrett of Grady and Larry Wayne Barrett of Bloomfield, N.M.; five sisters, Wanda Remmer and Hellen Ellison, both of Ozark, Sheila Ward and Teresa Benningfield, both of Bentonville, and Deanna Stratton of Cave Springs; one brother, Roger Dale Barrett of Bentonville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ELKINS

Betty Jean Smith, 70, of the Pinnacle Community, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1939, in Black Oak, Ark., the daughter of Ira and Lola Bolinger Daniels. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glynn Everett Smith in 1998; a sister, Louise Phelan; and three brothers, J.D. (Jake) Daniels, Lawrence Daniels and Oscar Daniels.

She was a member of Pinnacle Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Mexican Original, Campbell Soup and Tyson Foods.

She is survived by three sons, Michael Lynn Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., Ricky Lee Smith of Elkins and Ira Glynn Smith of Lillington, N.C.; three sisters, Gorgie Drake of Fayetteville, Faye McCauley of Killeen, Texas, and Vona Varner of Springdale; two brothers, Melvin (Butch) Daniels of Prairie Grove and Ronnie Graham of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and special friends Wanda and Norris Self, Wilma, Kay and Larry Vanlandingham and Kimberly Giddens.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Woods.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Burial will be in Pinnacle Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Hodge, Ray Hodge, Larry Spurlock, Roger Daniels, Oscar "Bumper" Daniels and Randy Drake.

FAYETTEVILLE

Mildred Henderson passed away on July 19, 2010, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Mrs. Henderson was born Mildred Geraldine Mays on July 10, 1918, in Salem, Va., to Fitzhugh Lee Mays and Nora Maude Underwood Mays.

She was raised by her brother, Walter James Mays, and his wife, Edna, in Baltimore, Md. She graduated cum laude from Southern High School in Baltimore, Md., and from Towson State University in Towson, Md., with a teaching degree in elementary education. She was a member of Mount Sequoyah Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Ark.

On Jan. 6, 1945, Mildred married Joe Boyd Henderson at the First Methodist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark. The family resided in Stuttgart and McGehee, Ark., where they farmed for more than 40 years. In 1985, they retired to Fayetteville, Ark.

Mrs. Henderson taught for several years in Baltimore, Md., Clewiston, Fla., and Pine Bluff, Ark. She was an active supporter of the local school systems and was a homemaker who devoted herself to her family and the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by three sons, Joe Boyd Henderson Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Huntsville, Texas, Dr. Walter Edward Henderson and his wife, Sudie, of Fayetteville, and Lawrence Mays Henderson of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Joe Boyd Henderson III and his wife, Elizabeth, Aynsley Henderson Letzerich and her husband, Palmer, Gibbs Callaham Henderson, Zackary Boyd Henderson and Holly Marie Henderson; three great-granddaughters, Annabelle Palmer Letzerich, Caroline Callaham Letzerich and Olivia Jane Henderson; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Henderson Henry, Mary Jane Henderson Grant and Myrtie Henderson Long; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Moore's Chapel, 206 W. Center, Fayetteville, AR 72701; phone: 479-442-7314. Her nephew, the Rev. Don Kirby Henry, will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 21, at Moore's Chapel.

WEST FORK

Troy Burton, 89, of West Fork, died Monday, July 19, 2010, in Fort Smith. He was born May 30, 1921, in Clarksville, Ark., the son of Thomas and Lillie Mae Pledger Burton.

He was a retired road grader operator for Washington County.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by two grandsons, Jeremy Todd and wife, Eve Burton, of Denver, Colo., and Ben Burton and wife, Melissa, of Hogeye, Ark.; and four great-grandchildren, Hailey Burton, Ashtyn Burton, Ezekiel Troy Burton and Zoe Burton.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Baptist Ford Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Curtis officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Beard's Funeral Chapel.

HINDSVILLE

Herman Lee Turner, 95, died July 19, 2010, at his home in Hindsville. He was born April 2, 1915, in Fayetteville to Thomas and Effie Bohannan Turner.

He taught school in Madison and Washington counties and had been director of the Madison County Welfare Department.

Survivors include his wife, Verda Mae Ledbetter Turner; two daughters, Nita Wright of Hindsville and Rita Jones and husband, Stanley, of Springdale; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville. Burial will be at noon at Farmington Cemetery.

GREENLAND

David G. VanWay, 69, of Greenland died July 18, 2010, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born Feb. 16, 1941, in Chicago to John and Helen St. John VanWay.

He was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the U.S. Navy. He worked as minister and reporter.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nesbitt VanWay; three daughters; one brother; one sister; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Cremation arrangements are by Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home of Rogers.

RULE

Boyd R. Harp, 87, of Rule died July 18, 2010, at Apple Ridge Health and Rehab in Harrison. He was born May 29, 1923, in Marble to James Monroe and Sarah Elizabeth Foster Harp.

He was a retired farmer, a Free Will Baptist minister and a member of Rogers Lodge #460, Free and Accepted Masons at Rogers.

Survivors include a son, Luke Harp of Huntsville; three daughters, Amy Harp of Berryville, Alberta Fort of Rogers and Doris Bumgarner of Huntsville; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at White Oak Cemetery.
