Hook, Coultas Too Much For Bentonville

— Morgan Hook and Jazmin Coultas did it to Bentonville again.

Three days after combining for 37 points in a 41-28 win against the Lady Tigers, the senior duo combined for 31 points as Rogers High claimed a 52-36 victory in a 7A-West Conference game on Friday.

The Lady Mounties also got 12 points off the bench from senior Hayley Clark.

Rogers (14-6, 5-2) led 15-14 midway through the second quarter, but a 10-0 run late in the second and a 7-0 run to start the third gave Rogers a commanding 31-16 lead. Hook scored nine points during the 17-2 outburst while Coultas added six points.

“Those two are playing with confidence right now,” Rogers coach Preston Early said. “Our kids did a great job of recognizing what is available.”

Clark hit four of the Lady Mounties’ six 3-pointers in the game. Her first 3-pointer gave Rogers a 18-14 lead, and the senior hit two more 3-pointers in the third period to help give Rogers a 42-21 lead going to the fourth period.

“Hayley hit some big threes,” Early said. “Sarah Ross hit a big three in the third. I think we did a good job of recognizing what our opportunities were. That’s what that team can do. We have a lot of versatility, offensively.”

Bentonville (12-9, 2-5) coach Tom Halbmaier said it was tough to overcome the Lady Mounties’ balanced scoring. Rogers outscored Bentonville 9-4 at the free throw line.

“Rogers shot the ball real well tonight,” Halbmaier said. “I can’t fault my girls. When they (Rogers) shoot the ball like that, they can beat anybody. Give Rogers credit, they played well. They are playing up to their capabilities.”

Montana Lewis finished with 16 points for the Lady Tigers while Emily Spencer added 12. Bentonville outrebounded Rogers by 10 in the first half but missed several chances for second-chance points when the game was close.

“We couldn’t convert,” Halbmaier said. “If we were getting second and third chances to convert, you can’t say anything about the number of trips (Rogers went) to the free throw line.”

Rogers returns to action today when it hosts crosstown rival Heritage in a makeup game in King Arena. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.

Rogers won the junior varsity game 40-32. Jenna Gregory led Rogers with nine points. Kali Piha scored seven for the Lady Tigers.
