— Jones, Lindsey, May, Clark to be honored

Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys;

Jim Lindsey, owner of Lindsey & Associates in Fayetteville; J. Thomas May, chairman and chief executive officer of Simmons First National Corp. in Pine Bluff; and the late William Clark, founder of CDI Contractors Inc.

in Little Rock, will be inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame in February.

Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989. Lindsey started Lindsey & Associates in 1973.

He founded Lindsey Management Co. Jones and Lindsey played football for the University of Arkansas in the 1960s.

May became Simmons' president and CEO in 1987 when it had $600 million in assets.

The bank, which has offices in 48 Arkansas communities, now has about $3 billion in assets.

Clark partnered with Dillard's Inc. to build CDI, which built Dillard's stores across the country.

The construction company also built the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, Episcopal Collegiate School and much of the campus of Alltel Corp., all in Little Rock.

The induction will be Feb. 12 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.

State foundation gets

development grant

The Arkansas Economic Acceleration Foundation received a $50,000 grant under the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Business Opportunity Grant program, the USDA said Tuesday.

The foundation is an affiliate of Arkansas Capital Corp. Group in Little Rock. The foundation annually sponsors the Donald W. Reynolds Governor's Cup, a collegiate business-plan competition.

The funds are used nationally to promote sustainable economic development through training and technical assistance for business and economic development planning.

Arkansas Index rises as 12 stocks advance

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, rose 1.55 to 164.73 on Tuesday.

"All the major U.S stock markets finished higher Tuesday as investors become more convinced that the economy is recovering," said Chris Harkins, senior vice president and managing director of Delta Trust Investments Inc. in Little Rock.

"The Arkansas Index rallied as 12 stocks advanced, five slid lower and one remained unchanged."

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
