Bentonville woman named to nutrition advisory panel

— Sheree Miller of Bentonville has been named to the Arkansas Nutrition Advisory Committee.

The committee was formed recently by U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.,to help her gather input on nutrition issues as she serves as chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

In a letter to Miller, Lincoln said, in part:

"The committee has a full plate. The Child Nutrition Bill expires on Sept. 30, 2009, and it is my top priority that we enact a temporary extension that will allow us to focus on strengthening the bill's initiatives, which help ensure school children in our state and across the nation receive healthy meals that give them the fuel they need to excel in the classroom. I will also work to ensure our nutrition programs are implemented the way Congress intended with last year's Farm Bill.

"Please know that you have a role to play in these discussions, and I want to hear from you. Thank you for joining the Arkansas Nutrition Advisory Committee."

Miller has been volunteering for local churches, charities and anywhere else she could since she arrived from Oklahoma more than 15 years ago.

She has worked with Helping Hands and has given her time to Mother to Mother Ministry, in addition to helping out at her church and elsewhere.
