Area residents elected delegates to Angus Association Convention

Thomas J. Huls of Lincoln has been elected as a delegate to the 126th Annual American Angus Association Convention of Delegates set for Nov. 16 in Louisville, Ky.

Darrell Tunstill of Fayetteville and Steve Flickinger of Summers have been elected as an alternate delegate to the convention.

The men, members of the American Angus Association with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo., are three of 386 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members in their state to serve as a representative at the annual meeting. Representing 44 states, the District of Columbia and Canada, the delegates will participate in the business meeting and elect new officers and five directors to the American Angus Association board.

The annual event is held in conjunction with the annual banquet and the Super Point Roll of Victory Angus show, Nov. 16-17 during the North American International Livestock Exposition.

Cattlewomen seeking entries for annual Arkansas Beef Cookoff

The Arkansas Cattlewomen Association is seeking entries for the Arkansas Beef Cook-off. Over $1,500 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the best in the Adult Category and the best in the Junior Category.

In the Adult Category, original beef recipe entries should have a simple style that reflects the Sonoma-style diet, using few ingredients yet be incredibly delicious. Suggested ingredients to compliment the beef and add color, texture and flavor may include but are not limited to fresh aromatic herbs and spices, fresh vegetables, beans, whole grains, almonds, walnuts, pine nuts or peanuts, fullflavored seasoning agents such as chili peppers or hot sauces, capers, olives, bell peppers, roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes or dried mushrooms and sparing amounts of strongly-flavored cheeses. Recipe names should be limited to three to five (3 to 5) words.

In the Junior Division, original beef recipes should reflect a Halloween Theme in a creative way.

Recipes should include no more than 10 ingredients excluding water, salt, ground black pepper, vegetable oil, olive oil or cooking spray (these are "free ingredients"). Recipes must be completed in 45 minutes or less (not including marinating time).

To enter, send your best original recipe using one of the categories above (Sonoma-style for Adults, Halloween-themed for Juniors) by Oct. 15. Include the recipe name, number of servings and complete preparation techniques includingcooking time and temperature(s). Also include your name, address, home and work telephone numbers and e-mail address on your recipe. Please submit on a 8.5" x 11" sheet of white paper (one side only) to the following address:

The contest will be held Oct. 31 at Carl Stuart Middle School in Conway. The contest will begin at 8 a.m.

Students presented with briefcases

Mike Norton, 18, of Lincoln and Sean Hill, 18, of Springdale were presented with briefcases Sept. 11 at the Arkansas Farm Bureau Center for their outstanding leadership in agriculture education. Mike Norton is the son of Kevin North and Sonja Barton. Sean Hill is the son of Scott and Jamie Hill. The briefcases were presented to the students by Andy Guffey, Farm Bureau education and agriculture in the classroom coordinator.
