Sheriff Investigates Shooting Death

— Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating circumstances surrounding the shooting of an Evansville man Sunday.

Jeremy Cagle, 31, was pronounced dead Monday morning at Stilwell Memorial Hospital in Stilwell, Okla.

Washington County Sgt. Brett Hagan said a preliminary incident report on the shooting wouldn’t be available until after the medical examiner’s report in Tulsa, Okla. That report, he said, is expected to be complete within two to three weeks.

“There are still a few areas we’re trying to investigate and two people we’re trying to track down to interview,” he said. “The facts and evidence in the report indicate that it was accidental.”

Deputies responded to Cagle’s residence at 7:38 a.m. Sunday. Witnesse told investigators Cagle had been transported to Stilwell, Okla., Memorial Hospital.

“Apparently, the vehicle transporting Mr. Cagle malfunctioned along the way,” Hagan said. “Another car following behind stopped to pick them up. Along the way, they were met by an ambulance who transported (Cagle) to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”

During a search of Cagle’s residence, investigators discovered components of a nonfunctioning methamphetamine lab. That portion of the investigation has been forwarded to the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force for further review.

The Sheriff’s Office would not provide further detail about the shooting.
