As far as the Little Rock post office and the express companies doing business here are concerned, the Christmas rush has been the largest in the history of the city. Employees of these offices did not have time yesterday to give an estimate on the amount of business, but it was stated that the large volume of business has and will be handled without a congestion in any quarter.

50 YEARS AGO Dec. 25, 1959

Approval of federal assistance for carrying out the Upper Culotches Bay Watershed Project in Woodruff and Prairie Counties was announced today by William B. Davey, state conservationist for the Soil Conservation Service. The project, to be carried out in 5 years, is designed to provide flood protection and drainage in the 38,969 acre watershed.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock officials will meet with insurance adjusters Wednesday to assess last week’s water damage to the school’s library. Jerry Crittenden of UALR’s Industrial Research and Extension Center said Monday damage to the five-floor facility is estimated between $250,000 and $500,000.

10 YEARS AGO Dec. 25, 1999 RISON - Two ambulance companies intend to close their posts after the first of the year. With the change, Cleveland County residents may have a longer wait for emergency transport. Both the companies are based in Pine Bluff. Ron Lusby’s Inc. and Ambulance Transport Service each have kept an ambulance at Rison. But Lusby’s, which holds a county contract for ambulance service, has announced it will not renew its agreement with the county when the contract expires Dec. 31.
