Three deputies fired amid sexual harassment allegations

Three Washington County detention officers have been fired amid allegations of sexual harassment, according to Sheriff Tim Helder.

Helder identified the deputies as Tiffaine Scott, Mercedes McReynolds and Brandy Shipley.

"The bottom line is there were some policy violations dealing with conduct, allegations of harassment and conversations in a sexual manner in the presence of people who complained about it," he said. "There were also allegations of retaliation. When it was investigated, it was sustained.."

Helder said the three deputies were terminated for violating departmental policy.

The deputies have filed a grievance over the firing, and will be suspended with pay pending the outcome of the grievance hearing.

Helder referred additional questions to Washington County Attorney George Butler.
