Shiloh Powers Past Webster

— Shiloh Christian rebounded from an opening loss as junior quarterback Michael Slone fired three touchdown passes in a 35-12 road victory against Tulsa (Okla.) Webster on Friday night.

Slone was 19 of 25 for 170 yards and added a rushing touchdown for the Saints (1-1). Backup quarterback Casey Paraday was 7 of 13 for 124 yards and one touchdown. Each quarterback threw an interception.

The Saints jumped to a 14-0 lead and led 28-6 at halftime.

“Our kids came out on fire,” Shiloh coach Josh Floyd said. “I thought we played a good first half, but we have to do a better job of finishing games.”

Webster opened the third quarter with a time-consuming drive that resulted in a short touchdown to pull within 28-12. Floyd said the Saints did a poor job tackling and stopping the run.

“I was disappointed in the way we came out after halftime,” Floyd said.

The Saints added a late touchdown on Slone’s 3-yard run to cap the victory. Shiloh linebacker Austin Huett came up with an interception late in the game.

Shiloh was hampered by penalties throughout the game, Floyd said. Several touchdowns were negated by penalties, including a 95-yard kickoff return by John Johnson. Most of the infractions were holding calls.

“We have to clean that up,” Floyd said. “Those really hurt us.”

Wide receiver Ryan Michaelis, who caught 10 passes for 207 yards in the opener, had another big night for the Saints. He had six catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns, giving him four touchdowns on the season.

The Saints will travel to Greenwood next week for what has been a classic nonconference clash the past few years. It will be Shiloh’s final nonconference game of the season and third straight road game.

“Greenwood is a big game for our kids,” Floyd said. “They have a great team and a great program. We’re excited to see where we are.”
