LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is urging congressional leaders to ease credit restrictions with Cuba and says doing so would open millions of dollars in new markets for his state.
The Republican governor Tuesday sent letters to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, as well as the top Democrats in both chambers, about his recent trip to Cuba. The governor headed a trade mission to Cuba in September, the first governor to visit the country since the U.S. reopened its embassy there in July.
Hutchinson urged the leaders to advance legislation easing the limit on financing that requires cash-based sales up front for exports to the country. The legislation is sponsored by Republican Sen. John Boozman and Rep. Rick Crawford of Arkansas.
