Edward Harrison "Ed" Cooper, Jr., 76, of Fayetteville, died August 11, 2023, in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born June 2, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, to Edward Harrison Cooper, Sr., and Mary Ola McComber. He moved to Alma, Ark., in 1960, graduating from high school in 1965. A member of the R.O.T.C., he earned his B.S. in Business Management from the University of Arkansas in 1969 and served across several summers as active duty, Army R.O.T.C., from which he retired as a major.
After post-graduate studies in law, he settled into a career in medical resources and training with Elsevier Publishing Company. Many of the persons he trained became beloved friends with whom he maintained contact for decades. He retired in 2012. Ed was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Springdale, Ark.
A season ticket holder for years, Ed cheered on both the men's and women's Razorback athletic teams. Deeply interested in American and British history, he toured Civil War and Revolutionary War battlegrounds; as well as WWII battlegrounds in Europe, such as Normandy. He also enjoyed visiting National Parks, such as Yosemite; and was an avid traveler throughout the world, by cruise ship and by rail, visiting and revisiting Scotland, Wales, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. He loved to share details from his travels and was a walking encyclopedia on English and Scottish history from the Norman Conquest to the present.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Clifford "Chip" Cooper.
He is survived by his brother, Dixon Cooper of Fayetteville; sister-in-law Juanita Cooper of Oklahoma City, Okla.; niece Whitney Cooper of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and special friends, Gil and Paula Glover of Little Rock, Ark., and Gerald and Elizabeth Jordan of Fayetteville, Ark.
Ed made friends easily, remembered people's names, and was gracious to all he met. Special thanks are due the doctors and staff of Highland Oncology in Springdale, especially Diana Gallagher; and the nursing staff of Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville.
Ed made regular and generous donations to the University of Arkansas and a host of medical charities such as Doctors Without Borders and St. Jude's Children's Hospitals, and animal charities, such as ASPCA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St., Springdale, Ark. 72762. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Edward Cooper Memorial Fund at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
