Judson Thomas Hanson, was born April 7, 1970, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the son of Ronald L. and Polly W. Hanson, currently of Fayetteville, Ark., and the grandson of Cleon T. and Mabel Wilson, formerly of Dunn, N.C., and Edward S. and Viola Hanson, formerly of Racine, Wisconsin. He also has a sister, Julie W. Hanson, of Athens, Tenn., and her son, Dalton Carman, who is Jud's nephew. Jud was a proud Boy Scout who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at age 15. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1992 with a degree in Business Administration. He started his working career with Carolina Turkeys Corporation and after five years left to join the United States Department of Agriculture, as a Food Safety Inspector. He worked on assignments at locations in Ellijay, Georgia; Athens, Georgia; Sumpter, South Carolina; and Fayetteville, Arkansas. He retired with a disability retirement from the USDA in 2020. Jud was a person of impeccable integrity who could not tell a lie to save his life. He was also a person who believed that the truth of any matter was worth fighting for. Jud was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis when he was two years old. This disease did not cause serious problems until he developed a large level three cancerous sarcoma tumor on his left calf in the fall of 2007 for which he had major surgery. He subsequently developed five additional cancerous tumors, the last two of which were inoperable. He passed away in his home on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. It is requested that flowers not be sent. Donations may be made in his honor to: Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fayetteville, 901 West Cleveland, Fayetteville, Ark., 72701, or Butterfield Trail Village Foundation, 1923 E.
