Francis Joedean Smith, of Berryville, Ark., was born September 18, 1929, in Rudd, Arkansas, to Jess and Virgie Smith. He passed on August 18, 2021, at home, one month shy of his 92nd birthday. Dean was a member of Southern Heights Baptist Church in Berryville. He served his country in the Air Force. Dean served as a pastor for 33 years. He also worked for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department for 31 years before retiring as a Foreman. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Worley and husband, F.L., of Berryville and Debbie Woods of Berryville; two grandsons, Heath Worley and wife Lisa of Berryville and Shannon Woods and wife Melissa of Berryville; one granddaughter, Heather Smith and husband Josh of Berryville; seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Lexi Woods, Ashlin, Kamryn, Brady, Bryce and Gabriella Smith; sister, Maxine Cary. On November 12, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to Vella Mae (McCollough) Smith who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Eva, Bernie, June, and Ima Jean. Graveside service was held Monday, August 23, 2021, at Gobbler Cemetery with Pastor Scott Cox officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
