Ernest "Glen" Wylie, 77, of Gravette, Ark., passed away from congestive heart failure Saturday, February 20, 2021, at his home while surrounded by his family. Glen was born January 8, 1944, to M.R. Houston and Beulah Smith Wylie, in Brownwood, Texas. After spending his childhood in Texas and graduating from San Angelo High School in 1961, Glen moved to Arkansas in 1962, where he met the love of his life, Helen Elsea. They were married on November 22, 1967, and shared 53 wonderful years together. They lived in Gravette their entire marriage, raising their three daughters, farming, and later running their business together. Glen served in the Arkansas Army National Guard for 23 years. While serving, he also worked as a military technician on heavy equipment for 18 years. After medical retirement from the military, he and Helen opened their business, H Wylie Welding, which they operated from 1990 until 2013. Glen enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life, and he passed that love along to his kids and grandkids. He had a huge heart and was always looking for ways to "fix" any problem that arose, especially when it involved a plan for building or designing a solution for the many things people brought him through the years. He would then laugh and say he could do "pretty good for a country boy". He loved to joke and cut up, and anyone who knew him well most likely has a story to show his ornery side. He and Helen raised their girls to love Jesus, and he was active in various local churches, serving as deacon for many years. He was currently a member of Beacon Baptist Church, in Gravette, and faithfully attended until his health no longer allowed him to do so. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Charles Ed Wylie. He is survived by his wife, Helen, his 3 daughters, Cheryl Hooten (Paul), Tina Tryon (Kevin), and Glenda Herron (Kenny), all of Gravette, 11 grandchildren, and many people whose lives he touched. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the men who remained dear friends to Glen, both in the good times and when life got hard. Your friendship to him and our family will forever be cherished. A private service will be held. Fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.funeralmation.com.
