Betty Ree Huneycutt, age 95, a longtime citizen of Fayetteville Ark., went to be with her Lord on May 21, 2020. She passed away from natural causes at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Herbert J. ("Herb") Huneycutt in 2016. Born October 5, 1924, in the Richwoods community, Clark County, Ark., Betty graduated from Ouachita Baptist College (now University) in 1945 with a B.S. in home economics. She and Herb were married on December 21, 1946, in Arkadelphia, Ark., after he returned from WWII, where he served with the Army in the Pacific Ocean theater. Both were retired University of Arkansas employees and had lived in Fayetteville since 1973. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, where she was an active participant in the choir and served as music librarian along with her dear friend, the late Bobby Jean West. Betty was a member of the Razorback Swatters' Club for over 50 years and was an avid baseball season-ticket holder. She was also a birder and was a member of Audubon Arkansas. She was a prolific reader, and read most of John Grisham's works and also, of course, the Bible. Once she retired from the University of Arkansas, she and Herb traveled to many of our national parks, overseas to Ireland, to Arlington, Tex. to watch her beloved Texas Rangers play, and to Omaha, Neb., to cheer on her Razorbacks at the College World Series. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, John Howard Crawford and Thelma Bishop Crawford; her brother John H. "Johnny" Crawford, Jr.; and by her sister Helen Fisher, all of Arkadelphia, Ark. Betty is survived by her daughters, Sharon Adams of Arkadelphia, Ark., (and grandson Ed Arrington, and great-grandson Dade Arrington of North Little Rock, Ark.); Judy Archer and husband Doug of Pelham, Ala., (and granddaughter Gretchen Archer Sheneman and great-granddaughter Matea Smith of Okemos, Mich., and granddaughter Jennifer Wyatt and husband James and great-granddaughter Willa Mae Wyatt of Alabaster, Ala.); sons Jay Huneycutt and wife Jamie of Fayetteville, Ark.; and John M. Huneycutt and wife Carol (and grandchildren Jacob, Samuel and Hannah Huneycutt) of Fayetteville, Ark. Survivors also include her sister, Dr. Sammye J. Greer of Springfield, Ohio, and her brother, Robert Howard "Sonny" Crawford with his wife Doreen of Merced, Calif. A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church in Fayetteville with burial in Fairview Memorial Gardens by Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, with family members only. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church, 20 East Dickson Street, Fayetteville, Ark, 72206, or to Audubon Arkansas, 4500 Springer Boulevard, Little Rock, Ark, 72206.
