Curtis Truman Smith, Sr.

Curtis Truman Smith, Sr., age 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born on June 28, 1933, in Madison County, Ark., to William Claude and Ada May (McCoy) Smith. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret Smith; his son, Douglas Smith; and sister-in-law, Joy Smith. Curtis served with the United States Navy in the Korean War on the USS Traethon. He raised his family in Tampa, Fla., where he was a businessman and started Gulfcoast Petroleum. He had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying, as well as hunting and fishing. Curtis had a diverse career path and later found himself as a cattle and poultry farmer. Upon retirement, he returned home to Madison County, Ark. He is survived by his son, Curtis Smith, Jr. and wife Kandace of Fayetteville, Ark.; his daughter-in-law, Beth Smith of Hindsville; one sister, Doris Jean Rohwr and husband, Eldon; one brother, Paul Smith; five grandchildren, Rachel Purvis and husband, Benjamin, Sarah Smith, Christopher Smith and wife, Kristen, Meghan Clark and husband, James, and Colby Smith; four great-grandchildren, Ella Smith, Jagger Smith, Susannah Purvis, and Brody Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
