George V. Hutchens, 95, died Monday, Dec. 7th, 2020 in Bella Vista, Ark. Born Jan. 28th, 1925, in Scott City, Kan., to John Edgar and Martha Ann Dorsett Hutchens. George entered active service with the US Army Air Corps in 1944 where he was a 2nd Lieutenant pilot/flight engineer for B25 and B29 Aircraft. In 1945 George came home long enough to marry his long time sweetheart Eleanor Joann Winters. After being discharged in 1946, George attended Friends University in Wichita, Kan., graduating in 1951. George was a coach/teacher for 11 years coaching both high school and college football. Working 29 years with the American Red Cross, George retired as Vice President of Emergency and International Operation in Washington, D.C. George and Joann moved to Bella Vista where he served in many capacities, the Bella Vista POA Board for six years, the State and Regional level of the American Red Cross delegations. He worked with The United Fund Bella Vista, NWA Crisis Center, and various capacities at Bella Vista Community Church. He served on the Board of Directors of the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce, and a Board Member of the Benton County United Way. He and Joan also loved golf, bowling, theater, and the University of Arkansas Women's Basketball and track. George was a great father to his four sons: Mike, Pat, Kevin, and Kelly, with 16 years from oldest to youngest of the brothers. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Joann Hutchens; and son George Michael Hutchens. Survivors are sons, Pat Hutchens, and wife Sue, Kevin Hutchens and wife Lori, and Kelly Hutchens; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his 105-year-old sister, Juanita Purkey of Valley Center, Kan.
