Donald Glenn "Don" Collins, 92, of Springdale, died Sunday, October 21, 2018. He was born July 5, 1926 in a log cabin at Cedar Creek, Missouri to Leonard and Phoebe Pulley Collins. Don was a native son to the area moving with his family in a Model T when he was 3. He met his wife of 65 years on Emma Street. Don was a patriot. He served with Patton's Army at the gates of Berlin when the city fell. When the war ended he was in Puerto Rico preparing for jungle warfare. He had two brothers wounded in WWII and another fought in Korea. Don's father was a veteran of WWI. After the war Don attended Florida Christian College earning his degree in Bible studies. He went on to preach from Florida to Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri and Tennessee. He was one of the founders of Westside Church of Christ. At one point he bought an old school bus and a big tent and traveled throughout Arkansas holding worship and Bible study "meetings". He "retired" to own and operate a string of southwestern-themed gifts shops with his oldest son, David. He loved to work. He built a work shop in his backyard when he was 85. These last few years he resigned himself to his favorite recliner and old reruns of Gunsmoke and Perry Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Johnston) Collins in 2016, a son, David Collins in 2017, and 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by a son, Stephen Collins and wife Tara of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Collins of Springdale; adored granddaughter, Rachael Rudolph (Brandon) and their daughter, Rylee; additional grandchildren include Derreck Collins, Stacey Carlson (Ben), Jason Edwards (Cassandra), Sleeta Curry, Kaysie Griffin (Matt); and 12 additional great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 25, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery at 12 noon.
