Edward Bernard Pierce Jr., 79, passed away on October 15, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had lived in Rogers since October of 1991. Mr. Pierce was born June 19, 1939, in Norfolk, Virginia, and was the son of Edward B. Pierce Sr., and Lucille White Pierce. He lived in Norfolk for over 18 years and graduated from Maury High School in 1957. He remained in Norfolk until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, March 15, 1958. He was in the Air Force for just over 20 years, serving tours in Taiwan, Spain, Turkey, Korea, Thailand, Japan, and Hawaii. In addition, he was stationed in seven different states in the continental U.S. Mr. Pierce was in the field of communications throughout his military career, ranging from international Morse code to teletype, microwave, satellites, and early computers and served in Air training Command, USAF Security Service, Air Defense Command and Air Force Communications Service. Mr. Pierce attained the rank of Technical Sergeant prior to retiring. He also received 11 medals and ribbons, including two Armed Forces Expeditionary Force medals, which are awarded for service in hazardous zones. After retiring from the military Mr. Pierce attended the University of Alabama and 2 community colleges. He taught English as a Second Language, ESL, in Taiwan for most of 1986 through 1991. He arrived in Rogers in October of 1991 and worked for almost a year and a half at the Benton County Learning Center, again teaching ESL. From September 2004 until December 2008 Mr. Pierce worked for the Rogers School District as the In School Suspension Supervisor at Kirksey Middle School. He was also the announcer for numerous Kirksey events and activities, including all home football games. He was nicknamed "The Voice of Kirksey." Mr. Pierce was a member of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Pierce is survived by a daughter, Vicki Lynn Pierce, and four sons, Barry T. Pierce, Edward B. Pierce, III, Travis A. Pierce, and Sean A Pierce; nine grandchildren, Micheal Pierce, Soncerae Pierce, Meghan Pierce, Adrienne Pierce, Andrea Pierce, Nichollette Pierce, Erin Pierce, Edward B. Pierce IV, and Mindy Pierce; seven great-grandchildren, Willow Annaliese Pierce, Piper Grace, Paisley Marie, Winston Wayne Ham, Matthew Pierce, Cameron, and Shaila. He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Olivia Pierce. A memorial will be Friday, October 26th at 10 a.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial and military honors will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville at 1 p.m. Online condolences can be made at www.rollinsfuneral.com.
