James Wayne Herrick, 95, a resident of Bella Vista, Ark, died October 21, 2018. He was born in 1923 in Boone County Iowa. He was raised by Paul Wesley Herrick and Mattie Evans Herrick on an Iowa farm. In 1933 they moved to Guthrie County Iowa where he attended Guthrie Center High School and where he met Ila Sipe, who later become his wife. They both graduated GCHS in May 1942 and were married on November 2, 1942. They moved onto a farm in the Monteith area where James farmed with his father until 1953. They were blessed with a large family: a daughter, Barbara followed by eight sons; James Jr. (MIA 1969), Paul (Kathy), Gary (Vickie), Jerry (Aew), Roger (Lucinda), Don (Evangeline, deceased 2004), Robert deceased 2004 (Anita), Steven (Valeri) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. They lived in Panora until 1975, moving to Ames until 1992 and then living in Mesa, Ariz. until 2007, at which time they moved back to the Midwest to Bentonville, Ark., finally settling in Bella Vista. James was deeply devoted to his family and always made sure he took them to Sunday School and Church. He was a Cub Scout Master and Explorer leader for the Boy Scouts while his boys were young. He served in the church by helping the elderly get to church services, taught Sunday School, and also as a deacon and elder in the church. As they grew older they served as church ushers and by calling on new members. After moving to Northwest Arkansas they became members of Bella Vista Christian Church. Visitation will be at New Life Christian Church in Bella Vista, Tuesday, October 23rd at 1 p.m., followed by Funeral Services at 2 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
