Matthew Troy Pennington of Springdale, Arkansas, passed from this life on Saturday, October 6, 2018, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He was born March 23, 1965, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to the late Donald Owen Pennington, Sr. and Mary Alice (Colley) Pennington. He was 53 years old. Matthew was the youngest of seven children. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Owen Pennington Jr. and a sister, Lana Marie Irelan. Matthew was a kind hearted soul and would give the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. He worked in construction most of his life and knew what a hard days work truly meant. I don't think he would mind sharing that he struggled with an addiction to alcohol. Like most folks, he never intended it to happen, but it took control of his life. He said, I've lost almost everything that truly matters, my wife, kids, and my health. I wish I had never taken that first drink. I wish I could tell the world of the pain and hurt it brought me and those I love. By sharing this with you, we believe we have honored his wishes. We believe Matthew knew his Savior and received the gift of salvation and forgiveness that only Jesus Christ can give. He once made this simple yet profound statement, "I'm a mess. I just can't stop, but Jesus understands and He love me." He is survived by his children, Denver and Felicia; two sisters, Donna Doney and husband Craig of Kansas City, Kansas and Brenda Oviatt and husband Dee of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, David Pennington and wife Wanda of Combs, Arkansas and Michael Pennington and wife Amy of Springdale, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Irelan of Lavaca, Arkansas. The family will visit with friends from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 11th, at Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston, Arkansas. There will not be a funeral service. Cremation services will take place following the visitation. Cremation and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
