Sterling C. Nelson, age 88, of Rogers, Ark., died peacefully with family by his side on November 15, 2018. He was born in Randall, Iowa, on June 28, 1930 to Carl Martin and Esther (Larson) Nelson. He was married to Janice Jacobson on February 22, 1958 and was a graduate of St. Olaf College. He served in the Army during the Korean War and subsequently worked for Montgomery Ward in the Manhattan, N.Y., office for 25 years. Sterling dedicated his life to serving the community, volunteering for the Rogers Recycling Center for nearly 18 years. The foundation of his life was cemented by his faith and was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church for nearly 30 years, serving on executive staff for 5 years. He is survived by his beloved wife; son Steven (Linda) Nelson of McKinney, Texas; daughters Lois Nelson of Rogers, Ark., Karen (Scott) Klane of Rogers, Ark.; sisters Ruth Grimsley of Hubbard, Iowa, and June Teigland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren Jennifer (Armondo) Lopez, Candice Nelson, Joshua (Jenny) Gentz, Mathew Hopkins, Branden Gentz, Brett Gentz and Jacob Klane; great grandchildren Paige Garrison, Diego Lopez and Jaxon Lopez. He is preceded in death by both parents, sister Clara Leeman and daughter Jo Anne Nelson. A memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church of Rogers, Ark., at 11a.m. on November 26th, 2018 with Pastor Melissa Ehrhardt officiating. The family welcomes a gathering of friends prior to the service between 9a.m. and 11a.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers maybe made to the Peace Lutheran Church memorial fund.
