Desmond Heyliger, Jr.

Desmond Heyliger, Jr., 90, of Fayetteville, passed away on Nov. 16, 2018 at home under the care of Circle of Life Hospice. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 at Mount Comfort Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Wooley of Mount Comfort Presbyterian Church officiating. Reception to follow at the Old School House. Military burial at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Desmond was born in Germantown, Pa., to Desmond, Sr., and Marjorie (Molt) Heyliger on June 12, 1928. He married Barbara J. Bowen on Nov. 15, 1952 in Willow Grove, Pa., the day after he was discharged from the Army. He attended Temple University in Philadelphia. He went into business as a custom building contractor from 1962 through 1974 then retired and moved to Fayetteville, Ark., where he enjoyed his retirement fishing and farming. He was a veteran of the Korean War from 1950 through 1952 and served in the Army, where he earned the nickname "Moose" Heyliger. Desmond is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Heyliger Lankford; and son, Robert Bruce Heyliger. Desmond is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Joan Bowen Heyliger; children, Desmond Heyliger III (Barbara A.), Dorothy Heyliger Ashworth (Billy D.) and Marjorie Heyliger Ward (Daniel); sisters, Joyce Heyliger Striegler and Nancy Heyliger Thwaites; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
