Thelma Bernadine Wood Allsop-Sloan, 102, of Bentonville, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at her home. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 23rd. Services will be on Saturday, November 24th at 2 p.m. Both will be at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City, Ill. Interment will be at Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City, beside her two husbands. Memorials may be made to the Beecher City Veterans' Memorial or Hubbartt Cemetery. She was born July 19, 1916, in a log cabin on the family farm southwest of Beecher City, the oldest child of Charles and Grace Wright Wood. She married John T. Allsop on September 4, 1937, and he passed on Father's Day, June 16, 1963. She married Delmar W. Sloan on August 1, 1964, and he passed on June 25, 2003. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bentonville, and was the oldest member. Bernadine went back to school in later years and became an LPN. She worked at St. Anthony hospital, and she worked for Dr. Delbert Huelskoetter for nine years before retirement. After retirement, Bernadine spent much of her time making quilts, most of which she gave away. She was also a collector of Roseville pottery, again, a lot of which she gave away. Wanting to stay busy, Delmar and Bernadine mowed the Hubbartt Cemetery and they also took on the job of obtaining and putting up the first Christmas lights in town. She and Joan Wood Evans were co-chairwomen of the first five Beecher City Summer Festivals. She was instrumental in organizing several All-School Reunions and was a benefactor of the Veterans' Memorial. She is survived by daughters, Sharon (Wayne), Sue Lynne (Edward) and Carla (Rick), sister-in-law, Rosemary Wood, four grandchildren, Ron Knapp (Rhonda), Sherri Morgal, Terri Tolbert (Mike) Tom Phillips (Susan), a former granddaughter-in-law, Ronda Phillips, 10 great-grandchildren, Kenny, Ian (Ashley) and Zac Barczewski, Kaitlin Reese, Wade and Wyatt Phillips, Madison and Jake Knapp, Rusti Harrigfeld (Patrick) and Kristin Morgal, and five great-great-grandchildren, Weston and Cash Harrigfeld, Marik Wilson, Hazel Maloney and Harper Barczewski, special friends, Harold and Amy Frailey, her many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends who have been a special part of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three sisters, two brothers, six brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and six nieces and four nephews. Illinois arrangements are under the direction of Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Arkansas arrangements by Epting Funeral Home in Bentonville.
