Martha Jean Hogue passed away April 28, 2018. She was born December 23, 1928 in Miami, Florida to Joseph E. Jewett and Alpha L. Mourning Jewett. She attended grade school at Rock Island, IL and graduated with honors from Webster Grove High School in Webster Groves, MO. She graduated from Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa as an honors student with a BS in Foods and Nutrition and a major in experimental cookery. She was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority while in college. After her graduation, she worked in various capacities as a nutritionist in hospitals, nursing homes, and restaurants in Indiana, Missouri and Iowa.
She was married December 27, 1950 to Glen Eugene Hogue at the First Methodist Church in Webster Groves, Missouri. When their children were in high school her husband established a liquid fertilizer and Ag chemical sales and application business in Cascade, Iowa. She worked at their business as an office manager for 17 years and also worked part time at a local nursing home.
Martha and Glen moved to Bella Vista in 1986. She last worked as a nutritionist at Mercy Hospital in Rogers for two years.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, James E. Jewett and her husband. She is survived by three sons, David M. Hogue (Dianne) of Heber Springs, Ark., Dr. James Hogue (Patricia) of Woodbury, Minn., Michael D. Hogue (Dr. Laura Donaldson) of Freeville, N.Y. She has three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Betty Dakin of Bella Vista.
She was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista serving on numerous committees. Additionally, she served with many charities which aided the local community.
Friends are invited to a reception prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 2nd with memorial services following at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista. A private family graveside service will be held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Habitat for Humanity or First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Dr. Bella Vista, Ark. 72715.
